Computer vision applied to 3D human body reconstruction
Avinash Sharma, a professor at IIT Jodhpur and affiliated to the Centre for Visual Information Technology at IIT Hyderabad, was trained at INRIA Rhône-Alpes and INP Grenoble, France, where he conducted a PhD in 3D computer vision between 2008 and 2012. After his return to India, he made significant contributions to computer vision applied to 3D human body reconstruction. He is now applying this knowledge to tele-immersive and augmented reality, notably the conceptions of digital human avatars. Dr. Sharma’s work contributes to the perpetuation of traditional cultural features through new technological innovations, by focusing on the digital modelization of specific Indian clothing, such as saari, lungi, kurta.
His work is representative of the indo-french inclusive approach to digital technologies, that promotes the respect and protection of cultural heritage and diversity.
His work perpetuates indian cultural heritage in new innovative domains such as virtual reality.
