Driving Road Safety: T-AIM & Capgemini Launch Mobility AI Grand Challenge
The Mobility AI Grand Challenge, an initiative by T-AIM (powered by NASSCOM) in collaboration with Capgemini and supported by civic partner Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), called on Indian start-ups to develop AI-based solutions for detecting and classifying potholes in Hyderabad using video feed analytics.
The core objective was to address road safety hazards — recognition of potholes from archived or live video feeds (≥40 fps), classifying them by surface area and depth, and producing dashboards indicating spatial density, severity, distribution across routes.
Qualified start-ups (incorporated not earlier than Jan 2014) had the opportunity to submit an approach note, and shortlisted teams would develop a Proof-Of-Concept (PoC) within a defined timeframe.
Brought AI/ML innovation to civic infrastructure — enabling data-driven identification and prioritization of road-repair work.
Encouraged start-ups to engage with public sector (GHMC) to pilot real-world impact projects, bridging tech and governance.
Offered potential financial support (up to INR 20 lakhs) for the winning team to implement a live pilot, demonstrating commitment to action, not just ideation.
Positioned T-AIM + Capgemini as collaborators advancing sustainable cities and smart infrastructure through AI.
Official launch of the challenge covered by media, signalling public commitment to road-safety and AI-led infrastructure management.
Enabled participation from Indian start-ups interested in AI for civic solutions; shortlisted innovators moved to PoC development stage.
The framework allows deployment of AI-driven solutions in Hyderabad — with potential scalability to other Indian cities.
